Hope you are all keeping yourselves as warm as possible! It is quite a shock to our systems even though we knew this was coming....eventually!
Okay.. We want to invite all parent of the 4th grade to Chat and Chapel next Wednesday, December 14th! Please come to school with your child, have a little snack, mingle around with other parents and then join us in Chapel that morning! After Chapel, about 9:00, you can carry on with your normal day!
Also, a reminder of this Friday! We have the 4-8th grade Christmas Program at Memorial Lutheran Church! Please be sure your child arrives by 6:15! They should be dressed in nicer clothing to celebrate the story of Jesus' birth!
All book orders need to be placed online or turned in by Friday, December 9th.
As the cold weather has arrived please help your child be prepared for all kinds of weather! Coats, hats, gloves/mittens daily and as snow accumulates, snowpants and boots!
Remember we do have 2 snacks everyday, please encourage your child to bring one as they tend to get hungry throughout the day! :)
4th grade Christmas recitals are being held on Tuesday, December 20th at 11:30. Please ask your child for more specific information and what instrument they will be playing!
Happy Wednesday!

Hello 4th Grade Families!
The fourth graders asked if one of their memory verses could be their line in the Christmas program. I am fine with that!
Please work with your child to learn their line for the program! Most have it down already but encourage them to speak clearly, slowly and strongly!
Each student wrote their line in their planner so you should be able to find it there to help them!
Aiden, Luke and Ella are saying their lines alone while all others are saying it with a partner!
Let me know if you have any questions!
Happy evening!

Happy Friday!
This week went very quickly! With the Christmas Program coming up quickly (Friday, December 9th @ 6:30) and the excitement of Christmas in general, the day really fly by! Each student has one line to memorize for the program from the bible verse Luke 2:8-14. Please help your child practice and memorize this line for next week! (The verse they are responsible for memorizing is written in their planner)
Your child should have brought their December memory sheet home (green). Please be sure they are prepared for memory. It is a grade that can quickly be affected by a lack of preparation!
There was also a book order sent home. Please have your orders in by Friday, December 9th to ensure a "before Christmas break delivery"! :)
Gingerbread house construction will take place on Wednesday, December 21st in the morning. Look for a list of candy donations soon to provide for the whole class to share.
Please encourage your child to continue working on multiplication facts as their knowledge of these facts have really helped them with division. We have started division, moved to division with remainders and will be working towards long division next!
Blessings on your weekend ahead!
God's Peace to you during this ever so busy time of year!

We wanted to say again how much we enjoyed seeing all of you at conferences! It is nice to be able to sit down and hear insight from each other! Thank you for making them a priority!
A few things to be aware of...
- No School November 23, 24, and 25th! (Blessing on your time spent with friends and family and safe travels for all)
- There will be NO spelling test next week
- There will be ONE memory verse due either Monday OR Tuesday (which ever your child prefers)
- We started practicing for the SmarterBalance tests today and all went very well!
We recorded a Readers Theatre early in the week! All (except Aiden) have been able to see it! Please ask your child what role they played and their thoughts on what it takes to put on a "play".
Blessings on your weekend! May you enjoy some rest, fellowship, and joy!

Conferences are coming up Nov. 10th and 15th. Kay sent an email with a link for you to sign up for a time that works for you.
We do not have chapel on Wednesday this week. We will be having a special Veteran's Day Chapel on Friday, November 11th. The choir and the 5th-8th grade band will help with that special service. In the afternoon we will take the choir to Active Generations for a performance.
We are having a food drive for the Disabled American Veterans. Please bring nonperishable food items down to the lobby by Wednesday, November 16th.
In Social Studies we are making books about the Lewis and Clark expedition. We will finish the books this upcoming week, so please be on a lookout for those at home! This is a good opportunity for your child to show you how much we have learned about their exciting adventure.
In math we are working on double digit multiplication. For example 34 X 53= They have been shown two strategies on how to solve the problem. One way is the traditional method (which we were all taught) and the other is the area model. If you don't know what that is, ask your child! Hopefully they will be able to teach you. We will be sending home math journals on Monday, so you can see both strategies.
Looking forward to seeing all of you for parent teacher conferences!

4th grade celebrations and experiences
Hello 4th Grade Families!
We have been having lots of fun in the classroom the last couple of days! Friday we celebrated finishing the book Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo by having a party (like the one Opal has in Gloria Dumps back yard) with Otis pickles, egg salad sandwiches (which they ate all of), Dump Punch, Cheese sandwiches and Litmus Lozenges (lemon drops and Werther's caramels) all while we watched the movie!
Here are some pictures of their finals projects!

Yesterday we celebrated the Reformation by doing several things with our pumpkins before carving them! They even got named! Bob Jr., Count Drac, Striker, Doodlebug and Strong Father! These are how the pumpkins turned out!
Here is a chart we made recording a little bit of our research!
Thank you to the Iverson family for donating the pumpkins for this project!
Also thanks to Aidens grandparents and Mrs. Iverson for helping us with this fun day!
Please keep in mind shorts cannot be worn to school again until 4th quarter.
We will remain on the October memory sheet for the remainder of this week! I will hand out November's memory verses on Friday!
Blessings on your week ahead!

Happy Monday!
There is an important due date coming up I wanted to be sure you were aware of.....
Because of Winn Dixie Book Projects!
All book project options your child chose are due on Friday, October 28th!
If you are not aware of what your child chose to do...PLEASE ask!
Many have a great start and should have NO problem finishing....others have not spent the time I have given in class wisely and may really need significant time at home to spend completing their work.
They all seem to be enjoying their choices!
Again, let me know if you have any questions.

Our field trip is coming up this week on Thursday, September 22nd! Please remember to have your child here at school at 7:50 am with a lunch! Dress accordingly for the weather that day, because we will have activities outside. If you are coming with us on the trip don't forget your driver's license so you can go on the tour with us through Gavins Point Dam.
We are diving into multiplication in math and it is very helpful if you help your child learn their multiplication facts. During math I introduced them to Multiplication.com. It is a fun site where you can practice your facts in a lot of different ways. Spending a few minutes on facts just a couple nights a week can make a big difference for your child!
Thank you for everyone who took time out of their evenings to come to curriculum night this past week. It was a great time touch base with everyone and give you time to ask questions.
Just a friendly reminder that memory starts this upcoming week!

We took our first spelling test of the year, and so far they seem to be going well! Please remember to practice your child's words throughout the week. You will find their lists taped in their planners.
Our first novel that we are reading together as a class is Because of Winn Dixie. We are learning lots of new vocabulary words!
In math we have been focusing on adding and subtracting multi digit numbers. Learning our basic facts can play a huge role in math, so here are a couple of fun adding and subtracting games your child or even you can play at home! Minus Mission Space Shuttle Launch Math Facts Practice
Curriculum nights will be on Monday and Tuesday of this coming week. Mrs. Noble will not be at the Monday night session, so if you would like to see both teachers please come on Tuesday night. One of our topics that we need to discuss with you is how we are going to do Memory this year. This is also a great time for you to ask any questions that you may have about 4th grade.
The pancake brunch and open house is this Sunday. Come eat delicious food, and walk upstairs to see some of our projects we have been working on.
Our field trip to Yankton is on Thursday, September 22nd. Please let us know if you would like to help chaperone.

What an exciting first FULL week of school we had. It is nice to get into the routine of things. Students had fun starting individual lessons this week, and playing nine square at recess!
Please look for a purple piece of paper that talks about our upcoming field trip to Yankton, SD. If you have any questions about this trip or would like to come along, please let us know. It will be here before we know it. The 4th graders are already excited, except for the part when we said no electronics for the drive...
We don't have our iPads yet, which makes it hard to do research. In Science we are learning how animals use their senses help them survive. They are supposed to choose an animal and write down how their senses help them survive. Your child should have brought home an example, so you can better understand how to help them with their research.
Our first math test was today on place value, rounding, and comparing numbers! Everyone did a great job on showing what they have learned so far! We will be starting adding and subtracting multi digit numbers when we come back from Labor Day weekend.
Here is the information on the purple piece of paper, just in case you don't see it in your child's folder!:)
We have an exciting field trip planned for the 4th graders on Thursday, September 22nd. Our class will be going to Yankton, SD. We will be visiting Gavins Point Dam, Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, and the Fish Hatchery & Aquarium. We will be taking the school van and Mrs. Noble’s vehicle to get the students to Yankton. We have enough spaces for 5 adults to travel with us. If we have more than 5 adults that would like to go on this trip, you will have to provide your own transportation.
Here is the itinerary for the day!
7:50- Arrive at school to get ready to leave
7:55- Leave to drive to Yankton
9:30- Guided tour through Gavins Point Dam- Adults must provide a photo ID and no cell phones or cameras are allowed during the tour!
10:30- Scavenger Hunt through Lewis and Clark Visitor Center
11:30- Eat lunch/ Play at Pierson Ranch Recreation Area- Students must bring their own lunch and drinks!
1:00- Guided tour through the Fish Hatchery
1:30- Walk through the Aquarium
2:00- Leave to drive back to SFLS
3:30- Arrive at SFLS
Let us know if you have any questions or if you would like to help chaperone this exciting adventure!

We had a great first week of school! We learned so many new procedures, and had fun being Recess Rangers! We are starting to learn about our great state of South Dakota, and ways plants and animals protect themselves. In math we are learning place value of numbers up to the millions!!!!
This coming week Mrs. Noble will be doing placement tests for Spelling words. It takes about a week to go through the whole process, so the first Spelling Test will happen on Friday, September 9th.
Memory will also come home soon, and the first memory quiz will be on Thursday, September 8th.
We also did a fun activity with numbers this week called "Figure Me Out!" Students had to make up a math problem to answer a question. For example- The number of pets I own 5 X 1 =
They are hanging outside our classroom, if you have time they are fun to look at!

4th Grade Classroom Information Sheets
Welcome to 4th Grade!
Helpful information:
Snack Time
Snacks are very important to keep us
focused throughout the day! Please send
TWO snack every day to school with your child. We have a snack in the morning as well as one
in the afternoon! Simple and healthy snacks are encouraged: carrot sticks,
granola bars, cut up fruit, crackers, fruit snacks, string cheese, popcorn etc. Napkins will be available at school. Your child will also be able to have a milk
or juice during snack time which is also here at school but are encouraged to
bring a water bottle to use throughout the day.
Specials
PE
We have PE two times per week. Tuesday and Thursday mornings are the
scheduled days for PE. Mrs. Nelson is
the teacher and she has requested every child wears tennis shoes during the
PE time! She also would like you to
me cautious of what your child is wearing that day so it does not hinder their
ability to actively take part in the activities of the day! If you would like to have a separate pair of
shoes to leave here at school, that might be helpful too!
Music
Mrs. Dooley is the music teacher. Our scheduled days for music are Tuesday and Thursday
afternoon.
Spanish
Ms. Christy is the Spanish teacher and
will come into our room two times a week for 30 minutes on Monday and Wednesday
morning.
Art
Mrs. Noble will be teaching art. Our scheduled Art time is Wednesday
afternoon.

will give details needed for those that are interested. The current day for
Band is Tuesday before lunch.
Extra
Tidbits
Chapel
We have a whole school Chapel on

You are always welcome to join us!
There is an offering collected each week so if you are able to send a

giving! The offering monies collected go
to various outreach missions throughout the year!
Book Orders
A book order form will be sent home about
once a month. Watch for the Scholastic
Book Clubs order form to come home in your child’s folder. This is a wonderful way for our classroom to
earn free books! You may order online or pay via check. Please send your order form and check in an
envelope with your child’s name on it. Please make your check out to Scholastic
Book Club.
Communication
Our
classroom communication will be through a blog.
